I am a highly experienced Physics teacher and senior examiner, currently working as a Principal Examiner for A-level Physics. I have more than twenty years’ experience teaching Physics and Mathematics at GCSE and A level and have held senior examining roles for over a decade.

I spent many years as Head of Physics and subsequently Director of Assessment at one of the UK’s leading HMC schools. I studied Physics with Study in Continental Europe at the University of Birmingham, graduating in 2001, before completing my teacher training and Postgraduate Diploma in Education at Durham University.

Throughout my career, I have supported students aiming for the highest grades and preparing for competitive university entry, including Oxford and Cambridge admissions tests and interviews, the ESAT, PAT and Physics Olympiad.

My tutoring is calm, structured and closely tailored to the individual student. I identify gaps in understanding, explain difficult ideas clearly and use carefully chosen questions to help students apply what they have learned.

My secure, detailed knowledge of examinations allows me to give precise guidance on what examiners are looking for, where marks are commonly lost and how students can improve the accuracy and quality of their responses. Subject knowledge and examination technique are developed together throughout each lesson.

Students receive clear, consistent feedback, carefully selected work between sessions and ongoing support where needed. I aim to provide the right balance of support and challenge, helping students become more confident, accurate and independent.

Outside tutoring, I am a busy parent of two and enjoy travelling, reading—particularly science fiction—and spending time with my family. I am closely involved with my local running club, where I serve as President, and I enjoy running and following a range of sports. I am also a lifelong Sunderland AFC supporter.
