I am a Computer Science teacher with over six years of teaching experience across KS3 to KS5, including GCSE and A Level Computer Science, as well as Creative iMedia at KS4 and programming (including Python).

In my previous role as Head of Computer Science in an independent school, and earlier as Second in Department and KS3 Lead, I was involved in curriculum development, assessment design, and mentoring other teachers. This has given me a strong understanding of how students are evaluated and what is required to achieve higher grades.

Alongside my teaching, I have developed over four years of one-to-one tutoring experience, supporting students with both Computer Science theory and programming, depending on their individual needs. I work with students who require support with core topics such as computer systems and logic, as well as those who need to build confidence in coding.

I have particular experience supporting students who are new to Computer Science or feel behind, helping them build a strong foundation through clear explanations, structured practice, and step-by-step guidance.

I have helped students improve from a Grade 4 to a 6, and from a Grade 5 to an 8, by focusing on clear methods, exam technique, and consistent reinforcement of key concepts.

Students I work with typically show improved confidence and independence over time, particularly in applying their knowledge effectively in exam questions.

Biography

I studied Computer Science at London Metropolitan University, graduating with a 2:1, before completing my PGCE with QTS at the University of Coventry.

Alongside my teaching career, I have completed an MBA in Global Marketing at Oxford Brookes University, achieving an overall Merit, and hold the NPQLT (National Professional Qualification for Leading Teaching).

I am currently a Computer Science teacher at an independent school, and previously served as Head of Computer Science in an independent school, where I led curriculum design, assessment, and departmental strategy.

Approach to Tutoring

My approach to tutoring is structured, clear, and focused on outcomes. I aim to ensure that students not only understand key concepts but can apply them confidently in exam situations.

In one-to-one sessions, I quickly identify gaps in understanding and address them using targeted questioning, worked examples, and guided practice. I place particular emphasis on exam technique, helping students structure answers effectively and avoid common mistakes.

I support students across both Computer Science theory and programming, adapting sessions depending on their needs. For programming, I break problems down into smaller steps and focus on developing understanding of the logic behind the code.

I work particularly well with students who feel behind or lack confidence, helping them build clear methods and independence in their approach.

When not tutoring

Outside of teaching and tutoring, I invest time in developing curriculum resources and staying current with developments in Computer Science and digital education, including the use of AI in learning.

I also maintain a structured routine around fitness and wellbeing, which supports consistency and focus in a demanding role.
