I have tutored students at every level from 7+ to degree, each with great success. My admissions work is comprehensive: I cover English, Maths and Reasoning, the setting subjects of Latin and Science where required, scholarship General Papers and full interview preparation, allowing me to deliver a holistic programme of support rather than coaching in isolated parts.

Results

Admissions: My students consistently win places at the most competitive schools in the country, with a strong record of scholarship awards alongside standard offers. Because I cover every subject in the assessment as well as interview technique, students and parents arrive prepared for the whole process - and with the confidence and eloquence that make the difference under pressure.

GCSE (including 9–1): I have tutored across all boards in both English Language and English Literature, and the vast majority of my students improve by two grade boundaries, most achieving a 9. As a current IGCSE examiner I understand the marking process from the inside, and I create bespoke, top-level materials tailored to each individual student.

A-Level & IB: Most of my A-Level students achieve an A*, and most of my IB students a 7, gaining entry to the universities of their choice. My broad first-hand knowledge of set texts, written and oral task types, and critical context is especially valuable at IB, where exam technique is heavily rewarded and a close grasp of the rubric is essential. For every text and paper I provide comprehensive quote banks and examination guidance, with detailed feedback in lessons and annotated marking beyond them.

University applications: I have supported a large number of students through personal statements and interviews, including Oxbridge preparation, as well as SAT tuition for those applying to US universities.

Biography

A Cambridge-educated specialist in Education, I have spent over a decade helping students secure places at the country's most selective schools and achieve top grades at every level from 7+ through to degree. I grew up in London and attended North London Collegiate School, where I gained five A-Levels in English, History, Politics, Classics and Philosophy. From there I won a place at Trinity College, Cambridge, graduating with a double first in English and placing top of my year in poetry. Immediately afterwards I completed an MPhil in Education and Literature, during which I conducted research in a number of leading London schools and refined my practice within a rigorous academic environment.

My academic work includes published criticism, among it a piece on T. S. Eliot for Faber, alongside research credits, accolades and extensive teaching experience. I have tutored professionally since 2013, enjoying outstanding international results. I enjoy working with students across the UK, Hong Kong, China, Singapore and Dubai, with consistent success at schools including St Paul's, Eton, Westminster, Harrow, Wycombe Abbey and Brighton College. As a current IGCSE examiner for English Language and Literature, I bring first-hand insight into precisely how work is assessed - and how to help students meet those criteria.

Approach to Tutoring

I strongly believe lasting academic success comes not only from analytical skill, but from a genuine sense of personal fulfilment in the subject. My aim is always to help each student discover their own interest in the material - and their own way of learning. No two students are alike, and none should be taught as though they were. Patient, friendly, humorous and encouraging, I keep my lessons highly enjoyable while sustaining the drive and ambition that real progress requires. My students' confidence is of utmost importance, informing everything we do during any examination process.

When not tutoring

Away from teaching, I am a selling artist working in oils, specialising in still-life and portraiture. I also love ballet, gymnastics and London's theatre scene, and - as a lifelong learner - have appeared on BBC quiz shows.
