Benjamin

Benjamin is a qualified languages teacher who tutors French, German and Russian up to A Level and humanities at various levels. He also assists with PE and Sports Science. Before qualifying, he gained a degree in Modern Foreign Languages (German and Russian) from Durham University. Ben now tutors alongside working in a top independent school.

Biography

I grew up in Manchester, attended a selective grammar school, and went on to study at Durham University as both an academic and sports scholar, spending a year abroad.

After completing my teacher training in the North East, I began my teaching career at Sherborne School before moving to the internationally renowned Institut auf dem Rosenberg in St. Gallen, Switzerland.

Teaching is my vocation. I take pride in helping students progress academically while developing confidence, independence, and ambition.

Approach to Tutoring

I believe excellent teaching balances academic rigour with confidence-building and motivation. While strong exam results matter, education should also equip students with study habits, self-belief, and clarity of purpose.

My calm, kind, and patient approach is highly pupil-centred: lessons are carefully tailored to each student, using evidence-based strategies from cognitive science to ensure learning is not only enjoyable, but efficient, long-lasting, and transferable.

I place particular emphasis on study skills, memory, and clear communication, so that students not only succeed in exams, but genuinely understand and enjoy what they are learning.
