I am an experienced Mandarin Chinese tutor with over 13 years’ experience supporting students one-to-one. I am a specialist in transforming academic performance, with a strong track record of guiding students to A and A* grades across IB, GCSE, IGCSE and A-Level. My students have included those attending Eton College, City of London School, Westminster School, Cheltenham Ladies’ College and KGV.

Undergraduate: University of Leeds, 2014-2019, Mandarin & History (First Class w/ Distinction in Spoken Mandarin)

Biography

I am a Mandarin Chinese tutor specialising in IB, IGCSE and A-Level exam preparation, with over 13 years’ experience supporting students at leading UK independent and international schools.

I began my journey in Mandarin Chinese while living and working in Beijing. There (after much effort!) I learned Mandarin to fluency. This experience continues to inform my teaching - as does the deep satisfaction I get from teaching fun, enjoyable, informative lessons.

I currently reside in Scotland, though grew up in England before moving to China.

Approach to Tutoring

Enjoyment, interactivity and effectiveness are at the heart of each of my lessons. I teach by encouraging students to develop their own ideas - put simply, I do not provide students with the answers without having them first think (deeply!) about what the answer could be, how we can arrive at the correct answer, and how we can communicate that to the exam paper / examiner.

This approach works superbly when teaching students how to pass exams.

When not tutoring

I run my own tuition business. I read history extensively and enjoy long walks in the Scottish Highlands.
